The child should be examined for symptoms and signs of TB.  If he has any symptoms then a CXR should be done looking for evidence of active TB.  It is not possible usually to do sputum of AFB in children.  A child with symptoms will probably need full treatment for TB.

Any child under the age of 5 years, who has no symptoms but lives with a patient with TB should be given isoniazid prophylaxis for 6 months.
