Health Crises in Iran and Iraq

Both Iran and Iraq continue to have escalating health problems.

The ongoing conflict in Iraq has seen continuing severe shortages of both basic medical facilities and doctors, with most hospitals out of action due to lack of equipment and personnel.

The recent earthquake in Bam, in southern Iran, has also seen severe shortages of doctors and medicines with most survivors currently living in the open without shelter.

Bahraini doctor honoured

Dr Fawzi Abdulla Ameen, from Bahrain has been honoured by Wonca as the Global Doctor of the Month for January 2004. Dr Ameen was honoured for his ongoing commitment to the development of family medicine in the region.

SIG Meeting

WONCA Special Interest Group in Psychiatry & Neurology Annual Report. 

The special interest group for psychiatry and neurology recently met from Friday 26th September 2003 to Sunday 28th September 2003 in Milan.  Our host in Milan was Dr Filipo Zizzo, who was very hospitable to the group and indeed we all had a wonderful Italian experience.
