Four persons from a family have
died and at least one hundred and fifty have suffered
from acute gastroenteritis after drinking polluted water
from a rain filled pond in a village of Khuzdar. Khuzdar
is situated some three hundred kilometers away from Karachi.
There is no regular water supply
and people and their cattle depend on rain water which
gets accumulated in ponds. Emergency medical aid is being
given to sufferers and the local government is bringing
in safe water from tube wells in nearby areas.
There a lot of villages in Pakistan
which do not have their own water supply through tube
wells or river or streams. People and their cattle in
such areas
depend on pond water. There is no system to make such
water suitable for drinking and every year in Monsoon
season such tragedies occur here and there.
