Pakistan has 250,000 TB patients annually

 Pakistan has 6th highest TB prevalence rate in the world.

Islamabad, Lahore:- The high prevalence of tuberculosis in Pakistan has led to increase in poverty, destruction of social fabric, marginalization of workforce and retardation of overall economic progress.

This was stated by health minister Mohammad Nasir Khan at a seminar held on the occasion of World Tuberculosis day 2004.

He said the disease was widely prevalent in the country, with 250,000 new cases reported every year

The participants included doctors, managers of different health program, prominent citizens and friends and partners of National TB Control Program

The event was organized to sensitize the public about TB and consequences of the disease for social ives and national economy

The theme selected for this year is:-

"EVERY BREATH COUNTS,STOP TB NOW"
