Question 2
What is the value of a Mantoux test in this situation?

Answer
Mantoux test is often not helpful because it is likely to be positive due to the history of BCG vaccination.  In severe TB the Mantoux test may also be negative.

BCG vaccination helps to prevent rapidly progressive life threatening disease, such as miliary TB and TB meningitis, in children.  It is not so effective at preventing pulmonary TB.

If this child had not already been immunized then immunization with BCG should be done after completion of 6 months of isoniazid.
