Key features of depression and its management in general practice.

"..I'm not like other people.."

Fatima is a 22-year-old shop assistant who presents to your practice one Friday afternoon complaining of fatigue and 'feeling depressed' following a respiratory tract infection ten days ago. She has been married for 18 months to Raj, a regional sales manager for a software company, who she met at work. They returned from a holiday to Bali two weeks ago.

Fatima says of her marriage: 'it has not been everything I hoped for'. She says she has been working long hours and that work has been stressful and uninspiring. She appears depressed but does not have any other specific features of depression. She appears uninterested when she talks about her marriage and work.
