Dr Mendive graduated
in medicine and surgery from the Faculty
of Medicine, University of Navarra, Spain
in 1986. He went on to train through the
Family and Community Medicine Training Programme
in Barcelona, 1988-1990. Since 1991, he
has been tutor for the Family Medicine teaching
programme and Trainer of family physicians
at the Family Medicine Teaching Unit in
Barcelona.
He has been actively
involved with the World Organisation of
Family Doctors (WONCA), acting as their
Spanish representative from 1993 to 2003.
He has also been the Vice-president of WONCA
Europe in the triennium 1999-2001.
At the moment he is
the vice-president of the European Medical
Association (EMA) and member of the board
of the European Depression Association.
He is also the Spanish representative at
the steering committee of the European Society
for Primary Care Gastroenterology ( ESPCG),
associated to WONCA-Europe.
He was the president
of the Organising Committee of the WONCA
European Conference in 1999 and of the WONCA
World Rural Conference in 2003.
He is the vice-president
of the Organising Committee of the World
Conference on Men's Health ( Vienna 2005).
He is medical director
of the main journal for training in family
medicine ( Tribuna Docente) and also the
medical director of the Postgraduate Medicine
Journal at its Spanish edition.
Dr Mendive's main interests
in Primary Care are training in family medicine
as well aspsychological problems, family
and sexual dysfunction, urinary disorders
and gastrointestinal disorders. He has spoken
at numerous international conferences on
different topics and he is member of the
advisory board of the Journal of Men's Health
and Gender and of the Middle East Journal
of Family Medicine
