Middle
East Primary Care Research Network (MEPRCN) |
|
There is a substantial research need in primary
care in the Middle-East. Research is an essential
prerequisite in developing the speciality further
in the area, and in developing evidence-based
practice. Areas of research field that has been
neglected includes a substantial part of illness
and disease presenting to health services of which
the bulk is only encountered in primary care.
In addition the behavioural aspects, multidisciplinary
cooperation and teamwork, are among areas that
traditionally has been ignored in research

Research Proposal of the MEPRCN: Frequency
of Job-Related Burn-out in Family Physicians
working in General / Family Practice:
Proposal for an International Study of
Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East
Countries
Background:
The practice of medicine is inherently
stressful. Burnout is a reaction to chronic,
job-related stress. It is an emotional
state that may be accompanied by a number
of physical and behavioural changes. It
is estimated that between 30-40% of physicians
suffer from burnout at a level sufficient
to affect their personal or professional
performance.
Aims and Objectives:
Burnout can be prevented by psychological
or social interventions. The aim of this
study is to quantify burnout in Middle
Eastern FPs/GPs (Family Doctors/General
Practitioners), and try to identify factors
which predict burnout in the study population.
The objective of this study is to perform
a survey of burnout in General Practice/Family
Medicine.
Methods:
Randomly assigned FPs/GPs from participant
countries would be asked to participate
in this study. The randomisation and sample
selection process will be co-ordinated
by a key FP/GP in each Country, selected
from the participants of project meeting,
or their delegates. Each Country would
be expected to provide up to 100 completed
questionnaires to the co-ordinating doctors
(authors) for analysis. The study had
finished and the network is currently
analyzing the data.
